’This timepiece embodies technical watchmaking precision with Japanese beauty – powered by the first 10 beat manual-winding movement created by the brand in fifty years. Its dial features the ‘birch bark’ dial pattern inspired by the white birch forests illuminated in moonlight, near Shizukuishi studio where all Grand Seiko mechanical watches are crafted. The Moonlit Birch Bark, in the Evolution 9 style, features box sapphire crystal glass with an anti-reflective coating; its case, crown and clasp made from stainless steel. Evolution 9 is the latest 2020s stage in Grand Seiko’s “Grammar of Design” framework, first established with the 44GS – a blueprint to maximise sparkle, legibility and wearability for Grand Seiko watches since 1967. The exhibition case back showcases the in-house 9SA4 10 beat manual-winding calibre, accurate to 5/-3 seconds per day, with a power reserve of approximately 80 hours, due to its twin barrels and the efficient dual impulse escapement. The mechanism is based on the 9SA5 movement, with a re-designed manual-winding mechanism, revised bridge shape, and an elevated wheel finish. The power reserve is now located on the bridge for convenience. Designed to be slim at less than 10mm in depth it is accompanied by a hand stitched calf leather textured strap. Every Grand Seiko features signature high standards of precision, durability and legibility, handcrafted in Japan by Takumi artisans.
